ACVS provides Physical Therapy to students who qualify for this related service. Our physical therapist works with other members of the special education team, which includes the family, to identify the problems interfering with the student’s educational program. As with any special education service, a student must qualify for this service based on an assessment that is provided.
A Physical Therapist, or PT, might measure walking and other mobility skills; daily activities such as dressing and toileting; and positioning and posture during classroom learning, play, and other educationally based activities. The physical therapist can work on joint range of motion as well as other mobility, muscle strength issues. Most generally a PT will work on the large, gross motor movements.
Physical Therapy is a related service to special education. This means that a student must qualify for special education and in addition would qualify for physical therapy.
