ACVS provides Occupational Therapy to students who qualify for this related service. Our occupational therapist works with other members of the special education team, which includes the family, to identify the problems interfering with the student’s educational program. As with any special education service, a student must qualify for this service based on an assessment that is provided.
An Occupational Therapist, or OT, might work on handwriting or sensory motor issues. Occupational therapists use meaningful activity to facilitate a student's active participation in self-maintenance; academic and vocational pursuits; and play or leisure activities that naturally occur in a school environment. Very often our occupational therapist will work with Assistive Technology to address educationally based issues. Most generally an OT will work on the small, fine motor movements. At ACVS we provide direct OT services. However, if necessary a student may qualify for consultation.
Occupational Therapy is a related service to special education. This means that a student must qualify for special education and in addition would qualify for occupational therapy.
